The 5 E Gallery realizes the importance and value of real-life experience for students, as well as the many skills and ideas that students are able to bring to a workplace. The 5 E Gallery’s internship program aims to provide challenging positions that will enable students to apply the skills, aptitude, and knowledge that have been gained in an academic setting. Located in the Heart of Detroit’s Historic Corktown District 5 E Gallery is a rewarding opportunity for students to deepen cultural awareness, develop relationships and contacts, and give back to the community.

The 5 E Gallery seeks Interns who are energetic and dependable team players. You must be outgoing, positive and hard working. Interns act as representatives and serve as ambassadors to the public, provide an accessible source of information and ensure that each visitor’s experience at the Gallery is enjoyable. Interns will be trained to great and engage people, answer questions, and provide information about the collections and our exhibitions and programs. We are interested in enthusiastic individuals interested in gallery operations with excellent customer service and observational skills who are able to initiate visitor interaction by demonstrating the ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Interns must be organized and self motivated with “Strong” interpersonal skills and an interest in working with the public in an educational setting. Customer service, retail, teaching or museum education experience, are helpful. Knowledge of hip hop and the local area a plus.

The internship program is designed to give college students an opportunity to complement their formal education with career-related experience in a challenging, creative and professional environment.

Required time commitment: Flexible work availability a must 16-24 hours a week with an average of 10-15 hours weekly, plus alternating weekends and some evenings.

Art Production/Exhibition & Design

Internship projects are based on Gallery needs and requirements and are assigned to interns with the appropriate skills and interests. We are favoring applicants whose academic and/or professional experience combines design with one or more of the following areas: arts administration, museum studies, arts management, development, studio art or related studies.The Gallery encourages candidates from diverse backgrounds and academic disciplines to apply.


Interns assist sales/marketing/advertising staff in preparing materials for clients, presentations and events, perform administrative tasks including opening/sorting mail, photocopying, and mailing/delivering packages, short writing assignments. Will have the opportunity to participate in creative projects and brainstorming sessions for promotional campaigns, advertising collaborations and branding opportunities. Must be a self-starter and be able to articulate clearly, verbally and in written form. Ideal candidates possess superior organization and project management skills; are clear communicators and proactive team players; are competent copy writer/editor; are proficient in Microsoft Office Suite particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Design and web-development/production abilities a plus. Prior media production experience preferred.should be familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.

* Vast knowledge of entertainment blogs and national news blogs
* Experience working on a school newspaper, magazine, Website, blog, TV show, films, etc.
* Internet savy (surf the web with ease, know the best sites)
* A passion for all things entertainment
* The ability to multi-task
* the intern’s tasks may range from research, writing, editing, and design, to printing and publication.


interns should be familiar with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and have basic Typography & Design skills, perform tasks involving set-up and breakdown of events, stocking and general upkeep of retail area and information desk operations. Must be able to attend a mandatory staff exhibition orientation session at least once per exhibit. Also required to attend a monthly exhibition round table discussion.


Interns with media (video) experience needed. Seeking bright, energetic interns with media experience/education to assist in the pre-production, production and post-production of multimedia (video/audio) for the interactive division of our company. Interns will assist in the development of production planning and execution, maintain media library, as well as other multimedia tasks. Opportunity available for both on-camera and behind-the-camera experience. Video production experience preferred.
